1. Why are your products being recalled?

We are voluntarily recalling a limited number of ready-to-eat bags of select flavors of Popcorn, Indiana-brand products made on or after August 8th, 2012 because of possible contamination by Listeria monocytogenes.

3. How can consumers tell if the product they’ve purchased is part of the recall?

The products affected by the recall can be identified by their flavor, package size, Bag UPC (Code) and Best By date. All recalled products were packaged in red bags of various sizes. Consumers can identify if they have purchased an impacted product by looking at the Best By date located in the front, top right corner of the package and the Bag UPC (Code) located in the nutritional panel found on the back, bottom left corner of the package.

 

4. Are Popcorn Indiana products safe? Should I stop consuming Popcorn, Indiana product(s)?

Products involved in the recall should be discarded or returned to the point of purchase for a full refund or replacement. All products not involved in the recall are safe and may be consumed.

Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of those who buy our popcorn and the employees who make up our company. We hold ourselves to standards that are among the highest in the industry, and as such, we regularly conduct testing beyond FDA requirements.

 

5. What should consumers do if they have purchased a recalled product?

Products involved in the recall should be discarded or returned to the original point of purchase for a full refund or replacement.

6. Has the company ever had to issue a product recall?

We have never had a recall in our company history, and we are working to ensure this is our last.

 

7. What is Listeria monocytogenes?

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. Anyone who is concerned about a possible health problem or illness should contact a healthcare provider immediately.
